2006 Season Recap (11/28/06)

Crabtowne Bassmasters, a Maryland Bass Federation member since 1974, enjoyed a full 2006 club tournament season.
Crabtowne typically fishes 9 or 10 tournaments a year and we sponsor a yearly Team Tournament.  We are a flexible club
that believes in an enjoyable, competitive, and friendly atmosphere.

This year we fished waters in Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland.  We also sponsored our 16th annual Team Tournament on the
Marshyhope.  2006 saw significant impact from the weather.  Through high winds, freezing temperatures, or torrential rain,
we slogged though our schedule.  This year we found it necessary to change ramps, tournament locations, and we even had to
postpone a tournament.  In the end though, we got it done!

2006 was eventful.  We had several new members join the Club, we revised and rewrote our Bylaws, we participated in the
Southern Region Team tournament, and we even started a Club web-site.

This year’s tournament winners were: Adam Bolling (Anna #1 & Potomac #2), Steve Carman (Potomac #1), Jeff Casey
(Sassafras), Alan Thacker (Wicomico & Anna #2), Jim Pitt (Nanticoke & Marshyhope), Roger Shirkey Sr. (Gunpowder).  Steve
Carman carried a 1st place finish and two 2nds to capture Mr. BASS for 2006.

As the 2006 year closes, the Club is looking forward to the 2007 season.  We’re still looking for new members, boaters and
non-boaters.

Crabtowne Bassmasters: 2007 Season Recap

Crabtowne Bassmasters, a Maryland Bass Federation member since 1974, enjoyed a full 2007 club tournament season.
Crabtowne typically fishes 9 or 10 tournaments a year and we sponsor a yearly Team Tournament.  We are a flexible club
that believes in an enjoyable, competitive, and friendly atmosphere.

We had our Annual Banquet at the Olive Tree restaurant in February. Awards were presented to Mr. Bass and the
Tournament winners. This year we fished waters in Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland.  We also sponsored our 17th annual
Team Tournament on the Marshyhope where we also did a park clean up to help with conservation.  2007 did not hinder us from
the weather.  Though we still had the occasional high winds, freezing temperatures, rain, and fishing behind other clubs and
major tournament schedules, we still got through our schedule and managed to bring in a few fish.

This year we added discussions on the ‘how-to’ of bass fishing with various club members as speakers. We featured a raffle
at the end of our meetings this year that always had a few winners and we always seem to follow the meetings up with a stop
at Five Guys in Edgewater to talk about what else…… FISHING.

We had several new members join the Club for 2007.  Some of members now have new boats.

This year’s tournament winners were: Susquehanna: Roger Shirkey Sr., Potomac 1: Shawn Jones, Wicomico: Steve Carman,
Potomac 2: Shawn Jones, Sassafras: Denis Schanberger, Nanticoke: Jim Pitt, Marshyhope: Jim Pitt, Rappahannock: Alan
Thacker, Lake Gaston (2 day): Shawn Jones, Potomac 3: Steve Carman.

Shawn Jones carried three 1st place finishes and one third place finish to capture Mr. BASS for 2007. Steve Carman has the
lunker for the year, along with the heaviest stringer.

As the 2007 year closes, the Club is looking forward to the 2008 season.  We are considering a club trip together to some of
the upcoming fishing shows during the off season.  We’re still looking for new members, boaters and non-boaters.
Crabtowne Bassmasters: 2008 Recap

A Maryland BASS Federation member since 1974, the Crabtowne Bassmasters 2008 season is drawing to a close.

We’ve already fished nine tournaments.  Our 10th and last tournament is scheduled for the Potomac River on November 8th.
So far, Roger Shirkey Sr. has won five tournaments with victories on the Potomac, Sassafras, Marshyhope, Pocomoke and
Middle River.  Jim Pitt won on Trap Pond, Denis Schanberger won the Susquehanna, Shawn Jones took the Gunpowder, and Glen
Nemecek scored big on Lake Gaston.

During 2008, we’ve supported MBF efforts with Crabtowne members participating in Tournament Trail weigh-ins, working the
MBF table at the Fishing Expo, donating to youth programs, and writing articles for the MBF website.

Our annual Club banquet was held at Hella’s Restaurant in Millersville.  We had a good crowd and very enjoyable time.

The Crabtowne Bassmasters 18th annual Team Tournament was held on the Marshyhope in August.  It was a successful day.
We very much appreciated the support and participation from fellow Federation members.

Our membership roster has grown this year and we have enjoyed the addition of some great new members.  If you’re
interested in hooking-up with a great club, check out our web-site at www.crabtownebassmasters.com.  We have links for
inquiries as well as new member applications.  We meet at the Edgewater, Maryland police department building on the 2nd
Tuesday of every month at 7pm.

As the 2008 comes to a close, we’re already planning for the 2009 season.  We’ll be tweaking our bylaws, recruiting new
members, setting our club tournament schedule, and getting ready for our 2009 Team Tournament.  We’ll also be getting
together to travel to the various regional fishing shows.

We wish all of our fellow MBF members a happy and safe Holiday Season.

Let’s go fishing!
Crabtowne Bassmasters: 2009 Recap

The Annapolis-area Crabtowne Bassmasters club had a great
year in 2009, full of great fishing and fellowship.  The club is
now in its 32nd year of operation.  2009 saw very little
membership turnover, and now stands at 15.  The club did add
three new members this year, Doug Southworth, and John and
Keith Jackson, a father and his 16-year-old son, all in their
first experiences in club tournament fishing.

We kicked off the year by having our annual banquet, bringing
together the spouses and friends for some great food and
socializing.

The club fished 10 tournaments in 2009, including a 2-day
weekender at Lake Anna, three tourneys on the Potomac, plus
the Susquehanna River, Marshyhope Creek, Pocomoke River,
Sassafras River, Nanticoke River, and Trap Pond in
Delaware.  As is usually the case every year, some of the
tourneys presented severe weather challenges testing the
angler’s resolve.

The club sponsored its annual team tournament on Marshyhope
Creek in August, and it proved to be very successful with 28
teams participating.  It was great competition with teams
from Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.  The club hopes
to expand the number of teams in 2010, and has selected
Saturday August 7 as the tourney date.  Mark it on your
calendar, and join the Crabtowners for some fun fishing on the
Marshyhope, a beautiful and quiet creek on the Eastern Shore
that’s just loaded with lunker bass.

Roger Shirkey Sr. had another great year, capturing first
place and the Mr. Bass plaque for the second consecutive
year. Roger is a great angler, widely respected in the area
for his skills. “That guy can really fish!” commented Brian
Barnes, a guide from Delaware, at the Timonium Fishing Expo.

One example of Roger’s skills is a tourney on the Potomac
early in the year.  Roger launched at Smallwood and was
heading north towards the Spoils when he encountered a
severe rain storm.  He pulled up very short of the Spoils, and
fished at a nameless point that wasn’t part of his strategy at
all.  But he adapted very well to the situation, pulling in a
great limit bag and taking the lunker prize.

Tournament winners this year were Roger Shirkey Sr., Sam
Camp and Alan Thacker.  Roger Shirkey Jr., captured 2nd
place for 2009 and Jim Pitt took 3rd place.

Sam Camp took the annual lunker prize, pulling in a heavy 5-12
ounce bass in the Sassafras River on May 9th.  He used his
new Power-Pole to anchor in shallow water in a connecting
channel to an inlet, and caught the nice lunker early in the
morning.  He based his strategy on Internet research, talking
to local anglers, and pre-fishing the River.  Sam caught the
nice bass on a rattling lipless crankbait.
